From humble beginnings, GAP has grown to become the UK’s largest independent plant, tools, equipment and vehicle rental company. Established in 1969 by Gordon Anderson, the family-owned and run business operates from 141 depots and employs over 1,800 people nationwide.

Gordon Anderson’s sons, have led the business as Joint Managing Directors since 1988, ensuring that the same family principles on which the company were founded continue to this day. The third generation of the family is heavily involved as we look to break the £200m-turnover mark this year.

A key feature of GAP’s growth story has been the company’s successful diversification beyond plant and tool hire into more specialist areas since the recession of 2008/09.

The new divisions launched by GAP following the recession in recent years; Lifting Equipment Hire, London Tools & Access, Non-Mechanical Plant, Survey and Safety Hire, Welfare Services, Events Services and Vehicle Hire, now account for 30% of overall revenues
