Myton Warriors 38 – 24 Thatto Heath Crusaders
Thatto Heath suffered another defeat on the road as Myton Warriors edged out the visitors 38-24 at Marist Sporting Club.
In an error-laden game, the home side made the most of their chances and capitalised on the mistakes made by Thatto Heath.
A red card for Matty Norton early in the second half gave Myton the upper hand in the game and a strong second half performance saw them grab the two points.
Thatto Heath started the game slowly and were made to pay after early pressure from Myton Warriors saw them cross in the corner through Lee James.
Both sides struggled to put any attacking moves together with handling being the main issue on both fronts, this led to two spectacular long-range tries.
First Thatto Heath hit back as Liam Knowles scooped up a loose ball and sent Owen Scholes racing away from sixty metres out, Dan Birkett converted to put his side in the lead midway through the half.
However, Myton would one-up Scholes’ effort as Lee James went one hundred metres to cross under the sticks. Ash James would convert the try and add a penalty to give his side a 12-6 lead at halftime.
The second half started in contentious fashion, the referee judging Matty Norton’s late hit dangerous. Norton was shown a red card, a decision that would change the balance of the game.
Myton would capitalise almost instantly attacking the youthful right edge of Thatto Heath, Ash James with a strong effort to get the ball down despite the attention of four defenders.
Despite being down on the scoreline and in numbers, Thatto Heath didn’t lie down and produced a great ten-minute spell to hit the front.
Adam Prendergast crossed from close range before Niall Allen took a superb offload from Danny Davies, Dan Birkett kicking both conversions to edge the scores 18-16 in Thatto’s favour.
The Away side looked to have settled and adapted to being a man down, yet Myton came roaring back with four tries in the remainder of the half. Liam Ward the instigator in three, as he claimed a well-earned man of the match.
Niall Allen grabbed his second of the afternoon, but it was a mere consolation for Thatto Heath as the whistle blew, the final score 38-24.
After their early success in the first half of the season, Thatto Heath face Wigan St. Patricks in two weeks’ time as they look to keep up with Siddal at the top of the table.
