Match Report Girls Under 14s:
Thatto Heath Crusaders 28 – 0 Ashton Bears
What awesome defence from the team! Maddie’s try saving tackle on the line in the first few minutes set the tone for the rest of the match. Determination and commitment to defend the try line earned the girls their third clean sheet from the last five games.
In attack, the girls got three quick fire tries from Megan, Beth and Hattie. With a bit more composure we may have seen more tries, but for a few mistakes early in the tackle – Ava and Maddie both particularly unlucky not to feature on the score sheet. Playing what is in front us you should be encouraged and the girls have the confidence and skill to try things and those tries will come with time.
Credit must be given to the visitors who after the early succession of tries, steadied their defence and started putting pressure on Thatto and really tested them close to the line. In the second half it was more of an equal contest with both sides competing well, particularly Sophie playing against her school mates (and teacher). Megan burst through once again to get a second before Becca sealed the win with the try of the match – a lovely pass from Hattie that sent her racing from half way to touch down in the corner.
Each girl seems to be improving and growing in confidence with each game we play. Lexi is working hard and captain Bella ran well with the ball whist still being Miss Reliable in the tackle. It was a welcome return from injury for Kenzie who supported Beth with a bit of power taking the ball forward. In what was one of her best performances for Thatto, Maddie took the MOM trophy home having helped the team move up to second in the league table.
