Match Report Girls Under 14’s:

Whitley Bay Barbarians 6 – 22 Thatto Heath Crusaders

After an early morning departure, and in cold & windy conditions at Whitley Bay, the Under 14’s girls played really well to win 22-6.

Having only conceded 20 points in the previous 3 games the girls defence was always going to be key to winning, and they were dominant throughout the game. Despite the wind, the Thatto team played some entertaining rugby to the delight of Ava out on the wing who finished the day with her third hat trick of the season and the Girl of the Match trophy.

To be fair to the opposition they tried hard throughout the game with some strong running forwards. The score line would not have looked so good had it not been for the impressive Hattie at full back stopping some certain tries.  Megan as always put in some great hits and constantly caused trouble when she took the line on. Becca at scrum half with her trademark stepping runs managed to score 2 tries as she led the team to a great win.

There could have been more points for Thatto but for the unselfish acts of trying to lay tries on for others in impossible positions – but that typifies the current team spirit within this amazing group of girls.  With every game, every player is improving and everyone playing with a smile on their faces.

The girls continue with their busy fixture list with home games against Ashton on Tuesday (6pm) and Featherstone on Saturday (11.15am). If you are free and want to watch a committed and entertaining team play come along and give the girls your support.
