Thatto Heath Crusaders A’ created history at the South Leeds Stadium in Leeds on Saturday, when their North West Men’s League side beat West Hull 20-19 in the Barla National Open Age Cup Final.

Trailing 19-12 with four minutes to go, Jack Jones one on one steal gave the Heath much needed field position with four minutes remaining. Jones and Tom Rigby then combined to send Shaun Quinn in for a try to give the Crusaders hope, as they closed West Hull’s lead down to three points with three minutes left on the clock. With two minutes remaining, and on Heath’s last attacking set of the game, Shaun Quinn plucked Jack Jones pin point cross kick out of the sky to score the winner. Heath trailed 12-8 at the break despite Jack Jones fine show and will go try, which had cancelled out West Hull’s opening converted try. Heath had levelled the score early in the second half with Charlie Taylor’s unconverted try. Despite some dubious calls from the officials in the second half when Heath were in the ascendency, they trailed 19-12 to a converted try and drop goal with minutes remaining. However, Heath found a way to win! Shaun Quinn (pictured) was voted man of the match.
